Cotton Work Gloves Information

Cotton work gloves have been the gloves of choice for the American worker for decades. Cotton work gloves are cut from fabric in a pattern and sewn together by a sewer using an industrial sewing machine. The process is largely unchanged since they were first developed, the point of fabrication has simply shifted to lower labor cost countries such as China and Pakistan. The fabrics include 100% cotton and cotton/ polyester blends. They offer superior comfort and protect against dirt and grime. Many styles are available to fit the needs of many varieties of jobs.

Features and Benefits

·       Cotton glove weight is determined by the weight of the fabric. A “10 oz. Canvas” weighs 10

ounces per square yard; a “12 oz. Canvas” weighs 12 ounces per square yard, etc.

·       Canvas, Single-palm gloves are one of the most popular work glove styles. They are made from one layer of material. The are available in a variety of fabric weights and provide a very cost effective, versatile hand protection solution that is widely accepted by the user.

·       Canvas gloves with PVC dots offer improved grip and prolongs the usable life of the gloves.

·       All cotton styles provide some degree of heat resistance and abrasion protection.

·       Double-palm gloves provide superior abrasion resistance and moderate heat protection

while sacrificing minimal dexterity.

·       Hot Mill styles are made of a variety of layers of material to provide greater heat protection than single layer gloves. Burlap liners create pockets of air between the cotton layers to improve insulation characteristics.

·       Brown Jersey, another very popular general-purpose style, is extremely comfortable and the dark color hides dirt well.

·         Two-piece Jersey gloves are reversible (ambidextrous) and can be replaced one hand at a time, eliminating sorting problems. The styling and construction allows two-piece gloves to be considerably less expensive than a standard jersey gloves.

Common Applications

·       Canvas and Jersey styles are used in any general application such as maintenance, warehousing, material handling, and agriculture.

·       Nap-In Double Palm styles provide greater abrasion resistance than nap-out styles.

·       Nap-Out Hot-mill styles are used where heat protection is important such as foundries or tire manufacturing.

Available Features

·       Most Canvas and Jersey styles are available in both Men’s and Ladies sizes.

·       Canvas styles are available with band top cuffs, gauntlet cuffs, and knit wrist cuffs.

·       Canvas is available in 8, 10 and 12 oz. weight.

·         Double palm styles are usually 18 oz. or 20 oz. Weights.

·         Hot mills are available in 24, 28, 30, and 32 oz. weights.

·       Brown Jersey is available in 6, 8, 9, 10, and 14 oz. weight.

Common Objections and Suggested Responses

“My glove is wearing out too quickly.”

·       Suggest a heavier weight glove.

·        Determine if the wearing out or just getting dirty. Remember that a darker glove like a brown jersey hides dirt better.
